Eastern Shore of Virginia Birding and Wildlife Festival
The NE/SEPIF Joint Conference has been scheduled such that participants may take advantage of this year’s Eastern Shore of Virginia Birding & Wildlife Festival, which begins on Fri, Oct 10 (the day after the Conference ends) and runs through Sun, Oct 12. The Festival provides an incredible opportunity to catch sightings of species you may have never seen before. The Eastern Shore is one of the most important migration stop-overs on the East Coast, with millions of songbirds and butterflies and thousands of raptors converging here on their long southward journey. The Festival is organized as a series of field trips offered a la carte, such that participants can register for individual trips based on their interests. Check out www.esbirdingfestival.com for more information and to register (it is recommended that you register as soon as possible as these trips will fill up).
Festival Logistics:
The Festival headquarters is in Cape Charles, roughly 55 minutes from the Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront hotel where the PIF Conference is being held. EZ Pass holders can return to Virginia Beach within 24 hours for an additional $5; the return trip is otherwise $13. The Wyndham is making rooms available through Sun, Oct 12 at the conference rate for those of you wishing to participate in the Eastern Shore Festival. For those of you not wishing to commute between the Festival and Virginia Beach, there are lodging options available on the Eastern Shore (www.esvatourism.org/es_where_to_stay/where_to_stay_select.asp?cat2ID=5).
